Note: This is a general category that includes two Manitoba species, the Bluegill and the Pumpkinseed.
The most commonly caught of the two species is the bluegill, with both species offering a unique experience that has substantially increased in popularity. The aggressive bite and staggering colors of big, bull bluegills has turned these panfish into a sought after angling opportunity on a limited number of Manitoba fisheries.
Angling opportunities for bluegill and pumpkinseed are popular during the months of May to September, with hard water months also becoming popular for bluegill.
Top producing fisheries for bluegill include Metigoshe Lake, Dromore Lake and Hasselfield Lake. Top producing fisheries for pumpkinseed include Lake Minnewasta.
Manitoba Record: (Bluegill) Shared catches on Metigoshe and Dromore Lakes, measuring 29.21 cm (11.50”).
